"Auxilium"
This wall piece is done on a 3ft diameter piece of spruce pine. It is done by burning the image on to the wood using a series of blowtorches. I named this piece “Auxilium which is latin for “Help” because I named it this because Tigers are a species in desperate need of our help. Unfortunately they need help from us…..By some estimates, a century ago 50,000 to 80,000 tigers roamed India alone. Today, the tiger is classified as Endangered in the Red List of Threatened Species published by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and it is estimated that there are only 3,500 tigers remaining in the wild worldwide. 3,500!!!!!
Until it was banned, trophy hunting and a market for tiger rugs and coats threatened the tiger’s survival. Today, habitat destruction, human population growth, climate change and a demand for tiger parts threaten the tiger’s survival.

"Rise"
This piece was commissioned by Stan Hywet to represent the theme at the museum for the year 2021 and was on display on the grounds for the 2021 season which was "Restoration." I chose the lotus flower to fit this theme because I think it's a perfect natural representation of restoration. The lotus is viewed by many different cultures as a symbol of purity, enlightenment, self-regeneration, and rebirth. Even when its roots are in the dirtiest, and muckiest of waters, the lotus grows from it the most beautiful of flowers. I think this is a perfect analogy for the human condition, or just life in general right now. The piece is made from welded steel filled with Ecopoxy casting resin. The lotus flower frame was made from flat steel bent by hand with only a vice and no real measurement to speak of. I draw it out on the floor by hand and then just bend the metal to fit. The base the flower is supported by is supposed to represent water. Mucky dirty water, which is why I rusted the steel of the base. Then I filled the lotus frame with 30 liters of @ecopoxy casting resin and the whole piece ended up weighing a little over 200lbs once it was all done. I can deliver this piece personally and set it up where ever you’d like her. The stones around the base of the sculpture are included and used to be part of the wall around Stan Hywet! Contact me if you’re interested in buying her!
